Rationale
First Aid is an invaluable life skill that helps children become more aware of their surroundings and more confident in their ability to respond when something unexpected happens. Rather than creating fear, first aid education builds calmness, awareness, and a sense of responsibility for both personal safety and the safety of others.
Through age-appropriate instruction, children learn that they are capable of helping themselves or assisting others if the need arises. Even a basic understanding of first aid can make a meaningful difference in an emergency situation - empowering children to act thoughtfully rather than panic.
This Life Skill is about building practical knowledge, confidence, and reassurance, helping children feel more prepared and less overwhelmed when faced with real-world situations.
WHAT YOUR CHILD WILL EXPERIENCE:

- Understand what first aid is and when it is appropriate to step in, including learning about basic personal protective equipment (PPE) and why it matters.
- Be taught how to check if someone is responsive and how to assess breathing in a clear, age-appropriate way.
- Be introduced to basic life-saving techniques, including hands-only CPR and mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, taught safely and appropriately for the child’s age group.
- Learn how to respond to common emergency situations such as choking, bleeding, and burns.
- Take part in realistic, staged first aid scenarios that allow campers to practise their skills, build confidence, and apply what they’ve learned in a controlled, supportive environment..
