Rationale
The rationale behind this life skill is not just to teach children practical outdoor survival techniques, but to cultivate a genuine appreciation and respect for the natural world. While children will learn fundamental survival skills, the deeper purpose is to help them become comfortable, capable, and confident outdoors — whatever the weather brings.
Survival Skills is about showing children that adventure doesn’t depend on perfect conditions. Rainy days and sunny days alike become opportunities to explore, problem-solve, and adapt. Through guided challenges and hands-on experiences, children learn that the outdoors is not something to be avoided when conditions are less than ideal, but something to be embraced, enjoyed, and learned from.
By stepping outside their comfort zone in a safe and supportive environment, children develop resilience, teamwork, creativity, and a sense of self-reliance — all while having fun.
WHAT YOUR CHILD WILL EXPERIENCE:
- Take part in engaging team challenges such as waterproof shelter building, navigation and map challenges using walkie-talkies, and creating basic tools like bows, arrows, and simple traps for wilderness scenarios.
- Learn fundamental outdoor survival skills, including problem-solving in natural environments, working with limited resources, and understanding how to adapt to changing conditions.
- Build confidence through hands-on learning that encourages initiative, cooperation, and practical thinking.
- Most importantly, experience the joy of being outdoors — moving, exploring, laughing, and learning through play and challenge.
